Mira Barrett McBride
Mira Barrett McBride is a local interdisciplinary artist whose practice aims to explore the many ways in which nature reflects the intricate and intimate parts of ourselves. Through flowers, shells, and other organisms they hope to show the many similarities we share with the organic world around us. Nature is Queer; unique, non-conforming, vibrant, and most of all vital.
Through painting, drawing, and other interdisciplinary practices she has gained a deeper sense of understanding about the body and a better connection to her own. Just like nature, our bodies endure a lot; puberty, mensuration, menopause, chronic pain, and many traumas. Yet, just like nature we re-grow. Reflecting not only the pain we endure but also the ways in which we blossom.
By exploring the sensuality, Queerness, and sexuality found within natural forms they hope to highlight how intertwined we all truly are. Mira Barrett McBride recently graduated from the University of Emily Carr with a BFA, and works out of Vancouver in her shared studio collective.
