Damla ulukan
Damla Ulukan is a Vancouver-based digital collage artist. She is an interior architect and environmental designer. With a background in fine arts, Damla draws on a wide range of visual languages to create works that blur the line between the familiar and the fiction.
Her current series, Missing People, explores the mystery of human recognition by blending faces of different individuals—sometimes celebrities, sometimes anonymous—across ethnicities, genders, and cultures. These composite portraits evoke a haunting sense of ‘’familiarity’’, prompting viewers to ask, “Where do I know this person from?” or “Who do they look like?” Damla’s work is rooted in the creative possibilities of digitalization—leveraging its power to layer textures, manipulate color, and build figurative yet abstract compositions. She defines her style as contemporary.
By overlapping various portraits together and ‘liquify’ human mimics she creates a harmony between realism and conceptualism. As an emerging artist, she continues to evolve her voice across different platforms, inviting her audience to participate in a shared search for identity, memory, and connection through her ‘’Missing People’’
