Fraser Stepanick
Born in North Vancouver, I’ve spent my life immersed in the mountains year-round. Influenced by Art Nouveau, my work reflects the natural movement and flow of the world around me—from swaying branches and swirling snow to tree roots slowly reclaiming stone and earth.
I’ve been an artist since the early 1990s, but over the past eight or nine years, I’ve dedicated myself more seriously to my craft as life continues to evolve. My travels around the world and connections with fellow travelers expose me to new landscapes, cultures, and sources of inspiration.
My carvings showcase the beauty of local BC woods, particularly bird’s-eye yellow cedar burls and highly figured bigleaf maple. In my paintings, I carry that same sense of movement and organic flow into bold colours, layered shades, washes, and tints, inviting the eye to wander across the canvas and discover hidden images.
