Juan Contreras
I am Juan Contreras, an Engineer, fine art photographer and oil painter based in Vancouver, BC. My first career was as an Electrical & System Engineer, and late in 2008, I decided to pursue my passion for the fine art world. I started formal studies at Emily Carr University; then, I extended my art vision by attending the photography program at Langara College and completing my education with a Master's in Photography Projects at Master PhotoEspaña in Madrid.
I walk the cities. Downtowns, plazas, alleyways—each step is part of a quiet ritual. I’m not just passing through; I’m watching, listening, absorbing. Street photography, for me, is about reading the urban landscape like a living script—one written in architecture, gestures, details, and fleeting human moments. I call it Street Scenes. Not just because that’s what I see, but because that’s what I collect—scenes that feel both universal and personal. I move like a photo hunter: patient, alert, intuitive. And when something strikes—an unexpected composition, a texture of light, a face in the crowd, or a corner of a building catching the sun just right—I capture it. Not to take something but to preserve something. A moment that once existed. A moment I felt was mine.
