When I paint, I’m exploring the mystery of the natural world with open eyes and an open mind, hoping to convey my sense of wonder for the fragile beauty of the world we inhabit, a beauty threatened both by humanity and the raw, destructive forces of nature itself. I’m also looking for encouraging signs of nature’s ability to rejuvenate itself over time when left to its own devices.
I hope my paintings communicate what matters most to me and immerse the viewer in this intensity of emotion I’m trying to capture- the raw experience from living sensations revealed to me by light and colour. And I want each piece to stand on its own and leave a lasting impression.
Ultimately, I see these more figurative works leading me towards simplification and abstraction using natural forms and motifs to capture the essence of a place, to enrich the viewer’s experience, feel emotion and encourage a deeper way of looking and appreciating all that surrounds us.
