JC Jessie
JC Jessie is an interdisciplinary artist and cultural researcher. She holds a BFA from York University and an MFA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with additional studies at McGill University and a residency in Southern France. Her practice focuses on intangible heritage, particularly the material culture of Cantonese Opera connected to her family lineage. Her archival research belongs to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum's collection, and she has contributed as a guest artist and researcher with the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. Jessie’s work explores somatic history within landscapes and cultural artifacts, examining how collective memory is spiritually and physically manifested. Through “Old into New” and “East Meets West” concepts, she deconstructs traditions to interrogate cultural boundaries. Her new landscape studies, inspired by global travels, fuse Chinese materials with Western concepts, reinterpreting ancient traditions to question their contemporary relevance and invite viewers into a dialogue that challenges perspectives.
