Terri Connelly
I am a painter that tells stories. Stories from my observations of the human connection between nature and wildlife, and the intended or unintentional impacts of the choices we make.
My interpretive intentional style of painting applying layers of paint and glazes utilizing bold colour, brush strokes, mark making and collage that creates mood, movement, and emotion on canvas, cradle board and paper.
Nothing stays static in our life; we are constantly evolving, and I focus my bodies of work being purposely optimistic deepening an appreciation, awareness, and conversation on how we can coexist together on this beautiful earth.
This series inspired by my daily runs and walks around the lower mainland, Sea to Sky corridor and the Interior of BC. Always attracted to how mother nature flexes her strength and shows us her power with storms. I am also amazed at the strength and resilience of nature and people to bounce back through whatever storm they may be facing.
Each painting created on birch cradle board, gesso applied and then absorbent ground medium to create a paper like surface. I then applied my watercolours followed by acrylic paint to create contrast in texture and deepen the images.
Connection with each piece is a bird. It is remarkable how resilient our birds are, how many mate for life, and how adaptable they are to adversity.
I hope you enjoy these paintings and find the smallest of details that symbolize tears of hope and laughter amongst the rain.
