Matthew Hildebrandt

I am an unschooled artist residing on Salt Spring Island in BC. Beginning my artistic journey at a young age, drawing and painting as a child, I decided (at 7 years old) that all I wanted to be was an artist. Through years of artistic exploration, gallery rejection, hundreds of canvases being dumped in local landfills (I'm so sorry), hundreds more scratched and painted over, I have found a unique, childlike style that speaks to the joyous abandon of creating. I just really like making art. When not painting, I enjoy long slow walks in wild spaces, camping, drinking tea, baking bread, reading, and laughing.
