Christina Dommer
These paintings would not have been possible if not for my time at the Similkameen Artist
Residency in October last year. The serenity and isolation of my environment allowed me to tap
into my creativity in a way I hadn’t even experienced in art school. These paintings were inspired
by pictures I took near Whistler and Keremeos, B.C., as well as Cancún, Mexico.
Christina Dommer (any pronouns) was born, lives, and works on the traditional, unceded
territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh people (i.e. Vancouver, B.C.), and
works predominantly in drawing and painting. Their practice involves the political implications of
landscapes, and an adoration of the process of creative labour. She also has a deep interest in
interrogating the boundaries between ‘high’ and ‘low’ art. He has a diploma in Journalism from
Langara College and a BFA from Emily
Carr University.
