Kateryna Gavrylova
Kateryna Gavrovlova’s work challenges what we see on the surface, revealing the unseen stories behind each image. Her photography captures moments of tender, quiet motherhood—but what remains outside the frame is just as important as what is within it.
Kateryna Gavrylova is a Ukrainian artist, photographer, and ceramist now based in Whistler, Canada. For the past decade, she has explored maternity photography, documenting the depth of a mother’s love in its many forms. But no single image can ever fully convey the weight of motherhood. Behind every soft embrace, every peaceful moment, lies a journey of choices, sacrifices, and unseen struggles. Her latest project, UAMothers, is a visual exploration of Ukrainian motherhood in the context of war.
These images, filled with warmth and love, stand in stark contrast to the reality behind them. For three years, Ukrainian mothers have fought—sometimes in the most literal sense—to preserve moments of comfort for their children, shielding them from a war that rages just beyond the frame.
